Feb. 8th, 2022 10:06 pmThere's a middled aged hispanic couple who owns and operates the little Isleton grocery I frequent. I don't know their names. They're a little private and so am I. They have a daughter who used to help work there, who went off to college a handful of years ago. The wife of the couple has been absolutely giddy about something for two weeks now, doing dances and singing when other customers tell her to have a nice day, saying she *is* having a good day. They're usually stoic. So either their daughter is engaged, has graduated, or some multi-millinoaire is buying their store. Today, the person in line before me wished her, "don't work too hard", and I said, "uuh, they're always here", and she went on about how much she is always there for a minute before talking about how happy she is, about this unknown thing. Whatever it is, I wish them the very best.
R, when she was out, pointed out that the bees are still active. I'd gone this long without crashing in to one, slowing down to crawl while passing the hives. Being out in winter is off my usual routine. For a while, there were very few or no bees. When it got just a bit warmer, they picked up extremely suddenly and I wasn't ready for it and I finally screwed up and crashed in to a bee... I hit her with my helmet, and she bounced off and her stinger hit my arm, as her last act. I've caught bees a few times and try to keep an eye out for them along with a bunch of other stuff. So, sorry, little bee. Going very slowly past the hives again now, and it's like an asteroid belt. We can all avoid each other when I'm doing about 4mph. My profile is not very aero.
Making lots of dog friends.
Broke another bike seat. Planned ahead this time and have a spare but I really need to find something else that doesn't get ripped up when the bike is in the bike bag. The air is nice. Most of the left side gave all at once so had to stop and zip-tie it together. I should make a mould and cast one of these in bronze.
Replaced boom vang line. Spent an hour trying to get the bowline knot free with a screwdriver as a fid before giving up and cutting it off. Only un-replaced line at this point is the red mainsil reefing line (green reefling line for the other reefing point was done last year), the jib furling line, mailsil outhaul, and the mainsheet car line. I think. And the small bit of line attached to the topping lift wire rope for the mainsil. Got line for the jib furler but I misjudged (despite measuring... listed widths are a lie and old line puffs up) and it's one size too fat. Might work, but really doesn't need to be very heavy so may or may not order yet more. This could be pieced out for topping lift and traveler car.
