We had a person in with two boats some time probably more than a year back who I'm now just going to call "the tweaker". The tweaker unintelligible fast mumbling speech gave the habit away but at that point, he still had a name, as far as I was concerned. The boats he brought in, he was trying to "fix up" and re-sell, but he couldn't even manage to put sail covers and it seems unlikely he did a single constructive thing. That I could ignore. I hoped someone would get a good deal on his Ranger 27 or his Pearson Coaster 30 which had some dubious customizations, like rattlings running up the port shrouds, but also some great accessories, like wind vane self steering, a feature prized by anyone doing offshore sailing. I put my ratty used sail cover on his Ranger, but the Pearson is the gem of the two. Pearson has a reputation for building bomb proof boats. He'd maneuvered the boat in to the slip using an electric trolling motor as the diesel was not starting, probably before he got her. Then he did the classic tweaker thing and stopped paying rent. The manager (owner? reports conflict) had been getting walked all over and likely this was part of it, because it was around this time he brought in an enforcer. The enforcer laid down the law but also managed to avoid a repeat of the Philip idiot who was hired as a previous manager to clean the place up and drove off all of the good customers by being a complete blundering idiot and petty and officious. It's really the combination that ruins things. Anyway, the enforcer, instead of throwing people out, put them under some I assume under the table employment. The sneak-aboard was at first heavily policed so he wound up sleeping in his truck most nights, then wound up on latrine duty and running paperwork around to people. The tweaker tho initially agreed to be put to work in lieu of rent but then made an ass of himself protesting everything, dragging his feet, hiding, then apparently stealing kayaks and using them to get in and accumulating them. The enforcer was up in his business with the either work or pay ultimatum. This was still going on when the tweaker started making ready to go, trying to find a battery that could run the trolling motor. He managed to get both boats up around the bend and reportedly was allowed to dock at Lighthouse "for a while", which has some dock space but really is just a bar and grill. Only getting one side of that one, I don't know what the deal really was. Tweaker was making plans to try to move them further inland. Either that didn't happen, or someone who should not have a boat bought the Pearson. Pics:

Pissed about that. That's an enormous waste. They very much do not build them like that any more. Wishing I had helped try to broker a sale to someone in the club when I had the chance. Rudder damage probably doomed Jasmine even if the hull is otherwise ok, and she floated awfully high up on there. Probably tweaker left the boat anchored out.
