Jan. 23rd, 2022 12:51 amThe resident sneak aboard has been living out of his 19' I think it is cuddy cabin mobo. Story is unclear, but he started fixing up a large older... I'm not even sure what to call these beasts... that was next to him. This had been going on for a while. Word from the houseboat couple near me is that he's been staying aboard and the marina is not to know. I haven't been asking questions. So, chatting with the sneak aboard today as an interruption from soldering stuff bent over in to the cockpit lockers, I got a tour and had a drink. It's all relative, but the living area was huge, with two recliners and an end table opposite a large U dining setup. I wonder about boats but not enough that I'd go out of my way, and this is the second extremely dubious tour since turning off bilge pumps in the very large sailboat. This thing has a large bathroom you can easily walk around in with a spacious shower and separate head, with entrances from captain's quarters and opposite the galley, which has a full kitchen including almost full size fridge that doesn't work. This is absolutely larger than the houseboast by me. Captain's quarters are spacious and plush. Boat was abandoned about 15 years ago, going from the last time she got new registration stickers. Floors are beautiful wood. Exterior styling is dated and not one of the enduring classic styles. Relatively small stern patio almost certainly with the floors being access to dual V8 engines. I knew that his wife had somewhat recently died but found out that they were living aboard his cuddy cabin mobo, and she died 7:48am one morning, right next him, within about a month of when he showed up here and I met him. He'd mentioned being in a band before but I was treated to pics of the band (looks like something I'd enjoy), his wife, his father and his father's boat in the 30's. Said he was born in SF and grew up in the delta. There was something about fixing up the boat and if she sells but I think that might have been repeating a BS cover story because there was also something about naw she's abandoned no idea who the owners are. Didn't look at the second deck and bridge or what must be substantial space under the cabin sole. Sailboats and smaller boats and this houseboat here absolutely make use of that space but this one seems to just write it off. Forward berth doesn't even dip down. Conflicting info about his exact sneak-aboard status.
