Aug. 15th, 2022 12:14 pmLast time I talked to my mother, which is at least a month ago now, for some reason, the topic of waterfalls came up, and she brought up waterfalls you could walk behind. This is a major recurring topic in 2d tile video games, which I grew up on, but also, an actual, real thing in South Dakota, in sacred Native American land (very much unknown to me at the time but now very not surprising). My brother and I would ride small channels cut in the rock by water down falls like waterslides. My brother and I grew up on 8 bit video games so it blew my mind that my mother was well familiar with water falls with caves behind them, including stuff my brother and I knew pretty well. The Nintendo 8 bit classics were all made by old guys. Stories have come out from the origins of classic 8 bit enemies and mechanics similar to that. Often we reprocess lore for successful franchise, but it still surprises me how much comes directly from the natural world. We may not be able to reprocess things fast enough.
