Oct. 29th, 2022 10:39 pmMcMaster-Carr has boxes that dispense long pieces of sandpaper in various widths, suitable for sanding blocks:

Don't really have the space for that here and don't have a workshop in the forepeak (with a bunk opposite it and above it) but damn, luxury. (Was it Patrick who was calling dibs on the chain locker?)
Discovered the existence of locking pliers (Vice Grips) designed for locking on to bolts:

So that was part of the latest McMaster order for the current project. The closest I'd gotten to this before was finding "backup wrenches" which are designed for much larger bolts, such as when two pipes join by flanges with a whole bunch of big bolts on them. The backup wrench goes on a bolt and wedges against the next bolt in the circle. That could work for some applications here, but I'm not sure how well they clamp on (they're magnetic, which doesn't help with marine ply and stainless), and also, they're very big.
L was talking about paying me a visit but then his car imploded. Suggestions of biking over Antioch bridge and bus to Rio Vista were made. I was talking about going down there but then I wasn't able to make the haul out arrangements I was naively expecting to. Need to get back to that.
Final taken. Requested leave of absence for the term that goes exactly over the holidays. Work is hard to predict but if it's inconvenient for me to have a high work load over the holidays, I'll have one, and I still have backlog.
I was wrong about CSC having had their final open house. I did one, then there was one more in theory a month later, but it feels like more than a month has passed. On the other hand, the Microsoft Meltdown was immediately after that one, so if it's only been three weeks, then that's next weekend? As usual, not entirely sure which way is up.
I'll do a pic dump later, probably.
