After a hell week, not sure which way is up. Dealing with computer chores other than work for the moment but lots of work to do. U*P registration is open again but things at this point are pretty clogged up with things I need a proctor for. In Tempe, I posted on FB looking for one and wound up joining the weekly anarchist pub meetup, drinking beer in a noisy, crowded, hip bar in Tempe while an adjunct anarchist made sure I didn't cheat. That was great.

Now there's COVID and if there's any social cohesion in Albany, I've failed to find it. Googling for proctors here, I'm getting results for Proctor Lane, the Proctor Theater, real estate agents named Proctor, and everything but actual proctors. Searching Craigslist, people are selling Proctor Silex branded appliances. There's a restaurant supply company with a hundred posts with that name, and nothing else. Yelp has one listing, a corporate testing outfit. Talking to libraries here, they don't do that or don't do it any more. Universities here are very private and don't offer that service, so far. I love to hate on ASU, but as of about 10 years ago, ASU libraries did offer that service, for a fee.

I could install the automated spyware procotor software that probably took over, but I both hate stuff like that, and when I break down and try to use it (like id.me, which reminds me, I need to try again to order a new social security card which involves mail being delivered here), it doesn't work. Plus I'd have to flop over to Windows or something so U*P would probably see that and decide that a different computer meant a different person and I wasn't me after all. Maybe I have to take these courses in person and transfer them in. Maybe I'd have better luck figuring this out in the rural as hell Sacramento delta. (Looks like yup.) The corporate test taking locations I plonk down close to a grand for when I go to take certification tests (I hate everything right now) are an option too but that would quickly start to add up to a lot of money. Incidentally, I told Boat Friend I'd do the same cert he's doing. I ordered the book then haven't touched it. That might be on the agenda for today. U*P would be easier if I didn't have to tell them the exact proctor months in advance. http://sylvanlearningny.com/ is timing out connections. Main corporate site doesn't say anything but has a lot of stuff about tutoring kids. Will call as a last resort. albany.edu's hit is a job listing for a proctor, then Munson Williams Proctor Museum in Utica.

Lodi, CA's public library reports to do this: https://www.lodipubliclibrary.org/sites/www.lodipubliclibrary.org/files/LP12+Proctoring+Exam+Policy.pdf . And Solano County's too (other side of the river, but much closer): https://solanolibrary.com/services/ . If Sacramento County does, the Isleton probably does too, but that library is attached to the grade school.

Unrelatedly, someone needs to invent a daycare for COVID+ extroverts.
